A message from

Lola Barnes, MSN, RN, CNS
Director of Nursing and Clinical Practice

As we continue our Magnet journey in Redwood City, I am reminded of one of my final clinical nursing rotations at a Magnet-designated facility in Tucson, Arizona. Even after nearly 4 decades, the memories of that hospital remain vivid, particularly the sense of pride exhibited by the entire staff, and most notably, the nurses who served as my preceptors. These nurses spoke with confidence about their professional achievements and ongoing projects, demonstrating a deep commitment not only to their own growth but also to the quality of care provided to patients and their families.

I see similar dedication among Redwood City nurses. Kaiser Permanente nurses consistently leverage their expert clinical knowledge to drive meaningful improvements in patient outcomes. Their involvement in diverse projects, such as early sepsis recognition/reaching treatment goals and meeting American Heart Association door to EKG timing, showcases a commitment to evidence-based practice and continuous professional development.

This enduring culture of excellence, rooted in the Magnet model, continues to inspire our teams. It encourages nurses to pursue innovation, share best practices, and to celebrate achievements. As we advance in our Journey, it is clear that the legacy of professional pride and patient-centered care remains a cornerstone of our practice, shaping the future of nursing in Redwood City and beyond.
