Redwood City became the first Kaiser Permanente facility in the United States to be accredited as a Comprehensive Stroke Center (CSC) in 2015. As a leader in exemplary stoke care, our multidisciplinary experts actively engage in international, national, and regional conferences, sharing innovations and bringing back best practices. Participation in the Pacific Stroke Association (PSA) conference remains a cherished tradition, reinforcing our leadership in the Bay Area.
In May 2025, KP Redwood City again partnered with the PSA for the 25th annual conference. Vivek Rao, MD, Northern California Regional Director for TPMG Complex Stroke, and Director of the Neurocritical Care Unit, along with Kathryn Snow, DNP, RN, CNS, CCRN, SCRN, Neuro Clinical Nurse Specialist serve on the conference planning committee. Snow is a past presenter at the conference, and Rao serves as a session moderator and past presenter. Rao also chairs the Medical Advisory Committee and is a former PSA board member.
In 2025, Nancy Edwards, MD, Neurointensivist and Redwood City’s local Research Chair, joined the team to present highlights from the 2025 International Stroke Conference. Edwards’ enthusiasm for the latest and greatest in stroke care gave conference attendees an insider’s view of the international event hosted in Los Angeles. Sheryn Shahwan-Solorzano, PhD (c), MSN, RN, CPHQ, CPAHA, Redwood City’s Stroke Coordinator and Quality Practice Consultant, presented the challenges of identifying and treating posterior circulation stroke. Her session captivated the audience, sparking so many questions they didn’t want her to leave the stage.
The multidisciplinary collaboration showcased at the PSA conference reflects the daily collaboration of Redwood City’s stroke team. Physicians, nurses, rehab specialists, pharmacy, quality, emergency services, and dieticians work together with mutual respect, recognizing success depends on every team member performing at the highest level. Planning for the 26th PSA annual conference is already underway, promising another strong display of multidisciplinary stroke expertise.
