Celebrating Latinx Heritage through culture, community, and wellness

Bringing culture and community care together during the Latinx Heritage Month celebrations.

Kaiser Permanente Redwood City honored National Latinx Heritage Month, from September 15 to October 15, 2025, with a vibrant series of events developed and sponsored by our Latinx Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity Business Resource Group (BRG). This observance recognizes the rich cultural, linguistic, and multiethnic diversity of Latinx communities, beginning on a significant date marking the independence of multiple Central American countries from Spain and concluding in mid-October to align with Día de la Raza, a celebration of the blended, mestizo heritage that characterizes much of Latin America.

Throughout the month, Thrive Drive came alive with music, dance, education, and community health resources. One of the most memorable moments featured a live performance by Salseros Parseros, a dance troupe representing Cali, Colombia, whose energetic salsa showcased the cultural vibrancy of the region and drew staff, patients, and visitors into the celebration.

In partnership with nursing and clinical teams, the BRG also integrated health education, employee wellness, and preventive care into the festivities. The events included booths offering sepsis awareness, stroke prevention information, and free blood pressure screenings, reflecting the medical center’s commitment to improving health equity and early detection of chronic conditions, ensuring that cultural celebration was meaningfully paired with accessible preventive care.

Food vendors representing countries across Latin America highlighted the culinary diversity of the region and created a welcoming environment for staff and families. Additional activities, such as salsa kit giveaways and prize raffles, encouraged engagement and helped build connections among employees.
