A message from

Taira Roder, MSN, RN
Director of Nursing and Clinical Practice

2025 tested the strength and resilience of our nursing team in unprecedented ways. We have navigated new models of care, heightened patient acuity, shifting workflows, and ongoing staffing and capacity challenges — often all at once.

Yet through every transition, our nurses have remained committed to what matters most: safe, high-quality care and compassionate patient and family experiences.

Demonstrated through this commitment, San Rafael is one of two facilities leading Northern California in quality particularly, Diabetes Management, Breast Cancer Screening Rates and reducing disparities in African American Hypertension Control. Our patients and families continued to feel the steady presence of nursing as demonstrated by San Rafael’s high Patient Care Experience Net Promoter Scores, most notably our patients consistently rate their overall experience in Teamwork and Overall Care in the top quartile.

Our nurses continue to demonstrate extraordinary dedication and achievement across all areas of practice. In 2025, several colleagues advanced through the clinical ladder, attaining prestigious positions such as Nurse Practicioner III, Staff Nurse III, and Staff Nurse IV. These advancements reflect ongoing growth in clinical expertise and leadership, underscoring our nurses’ commitment to professional excellence and lifelong learning.

Through nominations from our patients, we celebrated our DAISY awards recipients; to honor those whose compassionate care, courage, integrity, and exemplary leadership make a lasting impact on patients and colleagues.

These accomplishments were not without challenges, and our nurses were pivotal in quality achievements and the exceptional experiences noted by our members.

We closed the year with deep gratitude and pride. Our nurses have shown that even in seasons of disruption, the core of nursing — clinical excellence, advocacy, empathy, and presence — remains unshakable. The lessons learned will guide how we design care, support our teams, and partner with patients and families in the years to come.

With our deepest appreciation, leadership acknowledges our nurses and nurse supporters for their unwavering dedication to our patients, colleagues and the nursing profession. Their courage in uncertainty, steadiness in change, and devotion to those we serve have defined this year. Together, we will move forward stronger, more connected, and more prepared to shape the future of care.
