KP Santa Rosa hosted the 2nd annual Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration to honor and remember loved ones while embracing the rich cultural traditions of our community. This collaborative event was planned by the Magnet Ambassadors, Equity Inclusion and Diversity Team, and Spiritual Care.
To commemorate the occasion, an ofrenda was set up in the hospital Meditation Room, along with empty picture frames for staff to add photos of their loved ones. The authentic ofrenda remained on display for two weeks, providing a private space for reflection and remembrance. Paper hearts were also provided, allowing staff to write messages to their loved ones and leave them on the ofrenda.
The celebration kicked off with an opening ceremony where nurses Cristina Chavez, MSN, RN, and Lucinda Reyes, RN, CGRN, shared the cultural significance of Día de los Muertos and its connection to the compassionate work of nursing. Chief Nurse Executive Rebecca Taylor-Ford, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, also spoke about the importance of cultural celebrations in fostering belonging and compassion while honoring those who have passed.
This partnership between the Magnet Ambassadors, EID, and Spiritual Care demonstrates how each member of the team contributes to cultivating a culture of inclusion and building a shared vision for compassionate care at KP Santa Rosa.
