Recognized for excellence

The San Francisco Medical Center received several awards and accolades.

As a trusted healthcare partner, we are proud to be recognized for high‑performing care across multiple medical and surgical services, advanced stroke and heart care guided by evidence‑based protocols, excellence in maternity services, nationally distinguished hospice care, age‑friendly services, and a strong culture of compassionate, patient‑centered care.

  • U.S. News and World Report ranked our hospital among the best in California and the San Francisco metropolitan area for overall care.
  •  Kaiser Permanente San Francisco Medical Center was one of only three KP NCAL medical centers to earn the highest three-star rating from The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) for patient care and outcomes in isolated coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) procedures. The three-star rating denotes the highest category of quality and places our centers of excellence among the elite for heart bypass surgery in the United States and Canada.
  • For the sixth year, we were named among the top hospitals in the U.S. for providing parents and their babies with high-quality maternity care, according to Newsweek magazine’s “Best Maternity Hospitals 2025” report. This recognition is given for meeting rigorous standards for maternity care, including low elective early deliveries and for following important protocols to safely protect new parents and their babies.
  • Newsweek also named our San Francisco Medical Center as one of America’s Best Home Health Agencies 2026, recognizing our program for providing high-quality, comprehensive care to patients who are homebound and need specialized medical care.
  • Our San Francisco Medical Center was one of three hospitals in California to receive America’s 50 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Surgery Award from Healthgrades. The award recognizes hospitals who achieve superior outcomes in bypass and heart valve surgeries.
  • In 2025, Kaiser Permanente San Francisco was honored with an achievement award from the American Heart Association (AHA) Get with the Guidelines Stroke award for exceptional care. The award is given to hospitals for delivering high-quality stroke care and for using practices that speed recovery and reduce death and disability for stroke patients.
  • Our ALS Multidisciplinary Clinic was awarded a prestigious grant from the ALS Association, an acknowledgment that our clinic provides patients with the highest standard of care and specialized expertise.
  • Our San Francisco Medical Center contributed over $1.7 million in grants and sponsorships during the past year to support the most vulnerable members of the communities we serve. In 2025, Kaiser Permanente San Francisco served as the lead title sponsor of San Francisco Pride and the Union Square Holiday Ice Rink and continues to work with local community partners including the SF-Marin Food Bank, Carnaval San Francisco, Chinatown Health Fair, San Francisco AIDS Foundation, and the Stern Grove Festival.
  • Kaiser Permanente demonstrated our commitment and dedication to the City and County of San Francisco with more than 75 meaningful interactions with elected officials, city departments, public commissions and nonprofit board meetings. Our interactions included tours, flu vaccine pop-ups, policy summits, cultural celebrations and visits with non-profit partners. In addition, our quarterly community newsletter highlighted our service activities throughout the year. Read the Q1– Q3 editions here and here.
