Transforming onboarding for Assistant Nurse Managers with KP Leadership University

KP Leadership University empowers new Assistant Nurse Managers with a dynamic onboarding program that inspires leadership and connection.

Transitioning into the role of Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) can be daunting, but KP Leadership University is redefining this journey through a thoughtfully designed onboarding program. Responding to the challenge of high ANM turnover, the university crafted a graduate-level curriculum that provides robust support and ensures a seamless integration into leadership positions.

The inaugural cohort featuring Krystle Javier, RN, and Ashante Fields, BSN, RN, exemplifies the program’s success. Over twelve months, new and recently promoted managers engage in a holistic onboarding experience that readies them for the demands of operational leadership. The curriculum goes beyond basic management training, immersing participants in the organization’s culture and structure, developing essential leadership skills, and facilitating meaningful professional connections.

KP Leadership University’s approach focuses on helping emerging leaders find purpose in their roles while aligning their efforts with the organization’s shared vision. By building strong peer networks and fostering ongoing support, the program not only enhances individual growth but also strengthens the collective leadership within nursing teams.

Javier said of her experience, “Transitioning from the frontline to the role of Assistant Nurse Manager felt intimidating, but this program truly provided the support I needed. There was so much to learn, even within the first week, we already tackled important topics like having critical conversations, lessons you can only gain through real experience. I believe anyone starting out in leadership should participate in this program.”
