In August 2025, the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) applied for the Beacon award, showcasing their commitment to quality care and nursing excellence. The application was made possible through the pivotal efforts of the ICU Unit Practice Council, notably Leslie Anderson, MSN, RN, CCRN, CEN, TCRN; Katherine Lewis, BSN, RN; Nathan Brown, BSN, RN, Leigha Banderas, AND, RN, Victoria Grant, MSN, APRN-CNS, Fung Wan Iris Ng, MSN, RN, CCRN, (Adult Services Director) , and Cherie Stagg, DNP, RN, NEA-BC (Chief Nursing Executive) who led and supported the submission process.
The application highlighted several significant achievements, including a reduction in catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs), which underscores the unit’s dedication to evidence-based practices and patient safety. The ICU also improved patient experience by implementing transfer protocols known as Transfer with a WOW, streamlining transitions and ensuring patient comfort throughout the process.
Additionally, recognition boards for certified nurses were established to celebrate staff accomplishments and foster a culture of professional growth. Collectively, these initiatives reflect the Intensive Care Unit’s (ICU) transparent focus on elevating nursing standards and creating a supportive environment for both patients and nurses. The Beacon application demonstrates the unit’s ongoing pursuit of excellence and their commitment to setting high standards in patient care and nursing practice. In December 2025, the ICU team received the Beacon Silver Award recognition for their outstanding nursing excellence.
