Every April, the ICU’s Legacy Committee hosts a Donor Remembrance Day event to honor patients who have given the gift of life through organ donation. It is also a celebration for the people whose lives have been saved and healed because of the donor’s generosity.
Family and friends of donors and recipients are invited, along with nurses and staff who have participated in the care of these patients. Participants share stories about how they have been impacted and healed through organ donation. Nurses who have been a part of the donor donation process share their experiences as well to provide insight into the incredible impact it has had on their practice.
Forget-me-not flowers are given to each family as a symbol of remembrance for their loved ones and participants are invited to write a word on a wooden heart to signify their loved and place it inside of a larger glass heart to display in the ICU.
