Kaiser Permanente South San Francisco continues to demonstrate nursing excellence and leadership on an international level. In 2025, three of our nurses proudly represented our organization and shared their groundbreaking work with global audiences at prestigious international conferences.
In July 2025, Doanh Ly, DNP, RN, CNS, CCRN, SCRN, Critical Care Clinical Nurse Specialist, presented her research at the 14th Quadrennial World Federation of Neuroscience Nurses (WFNN) Congress in Darwin, Australia. Her study, A Descriptive Study of Suspected Acute Ischemic Stroke Patients Who Experienced Post-Tenecteplase Hemorrhagic Complication, examined key risk factors associated with intracerebral hemorrhage following thrombolytic therapy. Dr. Ly’s work, conducted across 21 Kaiser Permanente Northern California medical centers, highlighted critical opportunities to strengthen post-thrombolysis blood pressure management and improve nursing documentation using the NIH Stroke Scale. This nurse-led research highlights the vital role clinical nurses play in advancing stroke care through evidence-based practice, interdisciplinary collaboration, and early recognition of complications to improve patient outcomes.
In September 2025, Post-Anesthesia Recovery Unit (PACU) Clinical Nurse Maureen Crehan, RN, CAPA, CPAN, and Nurse Manager Rowena Guarino, BSN, RN, represented Kaiser Permanente South San Francisco at the International Collaboration of PeriAnaesthesia Nurses (ICPAN) Conference in Dublin, Ireland. Their poster, Reducing PACU Length of Stay for Total Hip Arthroplasty Patients Through Interprofessional Collaboration and Workflow Redesign, showcased the power of clinical nurses to drive change through evidence-based innovation. Their work demonstrated how integrating ERAS principles, such as multimodal analgesia, caregiver engagement, and early discharge education, significantly reduced the average length of stay in the PACU for total hip arthroplasty patients while improving patient satisfaction and throughput.
