At the Association of California Nurse Leaders Annual conference in Anaheim, CA Tanya Scott Cannady, DNP, MHR, RN, NEA-BC, PHIMS, presented her poster on Cannabis Nursing and its impact on clinical practice. She shared recommendations from the Cannabis Nursing Scope and Standards to implement culturally sensitive evidence-based care to promote health equity, reduce bias and advance patient-centered holistic nursing practice.
At the Kaiser Permanente Northern California Research and Innovation Academy (RIA) Conference, Madeline Scanlon, BSN,RN, presented evidence-based strategies to improve rates of central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSI) in the acute-care setting in a podium presentation. She shared findings from her literature review about the effectiveness of CLABSI bundles, importance of ongoing education, fostering a safety culture and ensuring evidence-based practices are being adhered to.
Perioperative nurses presented 3 posters showcasing the work in their department. Sandeep Everest, BSN, RN, CNOR, highlighted a project to improve first case on-time starts and reducing turnover time in the OR through standardization of process. Ruth Ann Fletcher, MSN, RN, CNOR, led a project to update preference cards to improve efficiency and accuracy in the OR. Lionel Hoyte, DNP, RN, NE-BC, CNOR, and Rose Rabago, CRTCST, CIS, led a project to leverage 2D matrix technology to improve sterile tray accuracy for the complex and highly specialized instrument trays of a pediatric surgeon.
