On May 14, 2025, healthcare leaders, scholars, and innovators gathered in Pleasanton, California, for the Research and Innovation Academy (RIA) annual conference. Among the distinguished contributors were Jovie Jabla, MSN, RN, CCRN, VA-BC, Staff Nurse IV, who proudly represented Kaiser Permanente Richmond with a poster abstract that earned significant attention.
Jabla’s presentation centered on a quality improvement initiative designed to strengthen the training, preparation, and ongoing support provided to nurses serving on Rapid Response Teams (RRTs). As frontline responders during acute patient deterioration, RRT nurses hold a critical, high-pressure role that requires expert assessment, swift decision-making, and seamless collaboration. The initiative focused on enhancing competency, confidence, and structured support for these nurses, ultimately improving patient safety and outcomes.
The project reinforces an important truth: innovation in healthcare extends beyond technology and systems it is fundamentally about empowering people. By supporting the nurses who intervene during the most urgent moments of care, Richmond ensures that its rapid response processes remain effective, sustainable, and aligned with Kaiser Permanente’s mission of saving lives and improving patient outcomes.
This work exemplifies Richmond’s commitment to evidence-based practice, professional development, and continuous improvement, key pillars of nursing excellence and Magnet principles.
