Innovation and excellence remain at the heart of our nursing practice, and this year we took a bold step forward with technology that transforms care at the bedside.
On 3 South, we piloted the use of iPhones to replace the Zebra TC52 devices, with clinical nurse Bonnie Dabi, RN serving as the principal superuser and liaison between SSC and regional/national partners. Other superusers included Nicole Mantia, BSN, RN; Alejandra Santana, BSN, RN; David Balderas, BSN, RN; Bryant Tapang, BSN, RN; Osa Aiguobarueghian, BSN, RN; and Rebecca Pierce, BSN, RN. This initiative — supported by Katie Hoganson, MSN, MBA, RN, NEA-BC; Reid Hirsch, MSN, RN, CCRN; Maylee Iwai, MSN, RN, CMSRN, PCCN; and Nurse Manager Carl Schroeder, MSN, RN, PCCN — reflects our commitment to leveraging cutting-edge tools to enhance patient care and nurse efficiency.
The transition to iOS devices has already delivered measurable benefits. Nurses report improved Vocera call quality, a larger and more responsive touch screen, and streamlined software that makes workflows more efficient. Beyond these immediate gains, the potential for future functionality is exciting. Features such as automatic wound measurement and ambient listening promise to redefine documentation and bedside care.
This pilot was made possible through strong collaboration between nursing, Regional Informatics team, and both regional and national IT support. Their expertise ensured a smooth rollout and positioned us to scale this innovation across the organization. The overwhelmingly positive feedback from nurses underscores the success of this initiative and the value of investing in technology that empowers caregivers.
As we look ahead, we are eager to expand iOS adoption house-wide, unlocking new capabilities that will continue to elevate the quality of care and the nursing and patient care experience. This project exemplifies how innovation and teamwork, including the voice of the nurse and a shared vision for excellence, drive progress in our practice.
