The Trauma Video Review Program, originally developed by Jessica Pemberton, MSN, RN, CEN, TCRN, CAISS, CSTR as a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) capstone project, reached full implementation at Kaiser Permanente Vacaville Medical Center in 2025. This achievement marks a major advancement in strengthening multidisciplinary team performance during trauma activations and improving patient outcomes through structured, evidence-based feedback.
The program uses recorded trauma resuscitations to objectively evaluate team dynamics, communication patterns, and adherence to established protocols. Review sessions bring together physicians, nurses, and ancillary staff for collaborative, non-punitive discussion focused on identifying strengths, addressing opportunities for improvement, and reinforcing best practices.
Key Goals of the Trauma Video Review Program
- Improve Response Times: Streamline workflows to support rapid, efficient interventions during high acuity trauma cases.
- Enhance Role Clarity: Ensure each team member understands their responsibilities, reducing duplication, delays, and variability.
- Strengthen Collaboration: Build shared accountability, confidence, and interprofessional synergy through open dialogue and real time learning.
Since its official launch on November 17, the program has received overwhelmingly positive feedback from staff. Participants report improved communication, clearer role execution, and greater confidence during trauma activations.
This initiative underscores the essential role of nursing leadership in driving quality improvement, fostering high reliability teamwork, and advancing patient safety. The Trauma Video Review Program promotes evidence-based practice, interdisciplinary collaboration, and continuous performance improvement in trauma care.
