In 2025, Kaiser Permanente Northern California advanced its commitment to exceptional, high-quality care through the collective strength of our nursing teams. Guided by the theme Together We Lead, our nursing teams played an essential role in strengthening clinical excellence, enhancing the patient experience, and improving the health of the communities we serve.

The year brought notable achievements, including Magnet® recognition for the Santa Rosa Medical Center, joining Vallejo and South Sacramento in this highest honor for nursing excellence. Fourteen emergency departments earned Geriatric Emergency Department Accreditation, and seven critical care units received the Beacon Award for Excellence, reflecting outstanding outcomes, safety, and teamwork.

Kaiser Permanente Northern California is home to more than 29,000 registered nurses, nurse leaders and advanced practice nurses. In 2025, we welcomed over 1,700 experienced and new graduate nurses, while maintaining a 5.9% turnover rate — well below national averages, demonstrating a stable, highly engaged workforce.

Continued investment in professional development remained a priority. Hundreds of nurses participated in conferences in our region and across the country and presented evidence-based practice and research.  Over 5,350 nurses and nurse leaders expanded their practice and expertise by earning board certifications and completing advanced degrees. We also celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Kaiser Permanente Nurse Scholars Academy, marking a decade of supporting growth, leadership, and excellence in nursing.

The stories featured in this report highlight innovation, collaboration, and patient centered care, and reflect the extraordinary impact nurses make every day. We are deeply proud of – and grateful for our nursing community and the progress achieved together in 2025.
