Liesel-Buchner

A message from Liesel Buchner, DNP, MSN, CNL, RN
Associate Chief Administrative Officer
Director of Nursing and Clinical Practice

I am proud to share the achievements of the Sacramento’s The Permanente Medical Group (TPMG) team this year. Our team’s dedication and hard work have shone through in every aspect of our care. Allow me to share some of the key highlights:

Nursing Excellence: Our nurses consistently uphold the highest standards of care by prioritizing continuous improvement, professional development, and compassionate service. In 2024, the Unit Practice Councils of the Emergency Department and Procedural Areas were fully integrated into the Medical Center’s Nursing Professional Governance Council structure. This integration reflects our commitment to nursing engagement, practice excellence, and Magnet Journey.

Initiatives: We launched several impactful initiatives that have made a real difference. Each initiative has contributed to our mission of providing exceptional care, from enhancing patient engagement and integrating advanced health care technologies to introducing wellness programs for our staff and expanding community outreach.

Collaborative Efforts: The collaboration between Sacramento Neuro Interventional Radiology and the Emergency Department has significantly decreased door-to-intervention time for stroke patients. Our Sacramento ED in collaboration with other hospital departments continues to improve the throughput process reducing ED holds and ED to floor wait times.

Professional Development: Our Office of Nursing and Clinical Practice initiated a program to offer continuing education to nurses and allied health professionals, ensuring our team remains at the forefront of evidence-based knowledge and practice.

Patient’s Experience: Our Orthopedics and Podiatry department implemented a nurse-driven preventative health screening by offering in-clinic A1C blood testing for diabetes. One of our patients, a Vietnam veteran, shared how this service led to immediate lifestyle changes, resulting in better management of his HbA1c levels. This initiative exemplifies our commitment to preventive, holistic care and addressing care gaps to enhance patient health.

Our accomplishments are a result of your unwavering dedication and compassion. Together, we are setting new standards in professional nursing practice that profoundly affect our patients’ lives.

Thank you for your incredible work and commitment to excellence.

“If I could only use one word to describe the hospital staff at this hospital, it would be kindness. I had a 12-hr. surgery in December, and the whole OR team came to meet me in pre-op the head OR nurse looked at me with kindness in her eyes and said we are going to take good care of you. The staff nurses and aides, and PA on the nursing floor were also kind and helpful in their care, encouraging me in every way. My surgeon did such a professional job I will be forever grateful for his expertise, he gave me a new lease on life. Thank you, Kaiser Sacramento, from the bottom of my heart!”
