Travis Maher, MSM, BSN, RN, is the Chief Nurse Executive for the San Jose Medical Center where he provides strategic leadership and is responsible for the nursing practice and patient care services within the medical center. In his role, Maher has oversight for regulatory, quality, service, resources, nursing staff competency, and evaluation of the overall delivery of patient care.
As Chief Nurse Executive, Maher represents the professional practice of nursing and clinical provision of care as a member of the San Jose executive leadership team, the medical executive committee and other medical staff committees.
Guided by a vision of caring for caregivers, he aims to improve access for patients and physicians while creating an improved work/life balance for patient care staff. He is a collaborative leader who consistently utilizes process improvement methodology in working with staff and leaders to achieve Kaiser Permanente’s mission to improve the lives of our members and the communities we serve.
Maher has been a nurse for 29 years, with 20 years of experience in nursing leadership and executive positions. He began his tenure with Kaiser Permanente in 2022 as the Executive Director of Staffing, Scheduling & Strategy for Northern California. Before joining Kaiser Permanente, he served as the Chief Nursing Officer at Ascension in Illinois; Chief Nursing Officer at Detroit Medical Center in Michigan; and Chief Nursing Officer at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minnesota.
Maher received his Master of Science Management degree from Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee, WI, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Associate of Science Practical Nursing from Dickinson State University in Dickinson, ND.
