Please join me and the KP Northern California leadership team in congratulating our colleagues at the South Sacramento Medical Center, led by Chief Nurse Executive Rachel Wyatt, DNP, MHA, RN, NEA-BC, for achieving the prestigious American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Magnet Recognition® with Distinction for nursing excellence – the only hospital in the world to receive the honor with distinction on the initial designation.
Magnet Recognition is the gold standard for nursing excellence, quality care, and innovations in nursing practice, which less than 10% of hospitals in the United States have currently earned.
In March 2020, a group of nurses started the South Sacramento journey to Magnet with a goal to help make Kaiser Permanente the best place for patients to receive care and the best place for professional nurses to deliver exceptional care.
The recognition process is rigorous and demanding, requiring widespread participation and collaboration from interdisciplinary team members and leadership. It includes an electronic application, written patient care documentation, an on-site visit, and a review by the ANCC’s Commission on Magnet Recognition.
During the call on Wednesday when Magnet Recognition program leaders shared the news about this exciting achievement, the South Sacramento team was praised for having 80% of professional nurses with a bachelor’s degree; clinical nurses taking initiative to improve nursing practice and patient outcomes; and their extensive work and leadership supporting the well-being of the nursing team and addressing staff burnout.
To our South Sacramento nurses – a heartfelt congratulations on Magnet Recognition with Distinction. What a tremendous honor, you should all be so proud. Thank you for your commitment to nursing excellence.
