Extraordinary Nurse Awards Program

Kaiser Permanente Northern California’s annual Extraordinary Nurse Awards program recognizes and honors nurses who exemplify professionalism, compassion, teamwork, excellence, integrity, and patient- and family-centric care in their practice.

Each year we celebrate our Extraordinary Nurse Award honorees — and all our nurses in Northern California with a Nurses Week campaign and a virtual awards show.

The DAISY Foundation Awards

The DAISY Foundation Awards express gratitude to exceptional nurses by recognizing them and honoring them for the extraordinary, compassionate, skillful care they provide patients and families. By honoring compassionate nurses, DAISY reinforces the importance of compassion in healthcare, shining a light on all that is done right in nursing.

DAISY Nurse Award

The DAISY Nurse Award for front-line staff recognizes the compassion and care nurses provide to patients and families.

DAISY Nurse Leader Award

The DAISY Nurse Leader Award shines a light on nurse leaders — nurse managers/directors/educators, and assistant nurse managers — who don’t generally have direct patient care as part of their work and create an environment where compassionate, skillful care thrives.

DAISY Team Award

The DAISY Team Award recognizes two or more people who identify and meet patient and/or patient family needs by going above and beyond the traditional role of nursing.

DAISY Lifetime Achievement Awards

The Kaiser Permanente Nurse Scholars Academy recently recognized 2 of our former Chief Nurse Executives with DAISY Lifetime Achievement Awards. The award recognizes outstanding nurses who have devoted their lives to the compassionate care of others. Deloras Jones and Marilyn Chow have lifetime careers of leadership and dedication to advancing the profession of nursing, in terms of quality, care and innovation.

PETAL Awards

(Allied Health Friends of Nursing) — The PETAL Award is for interdisciplinary non-nurses. It recognizes the hard work of caregivers in non-nursing roles, from housekeeping and dietary services, who partner with nurses to deliver excellent, compassionate care for our members and the community.

Lotus Awards

The Lotus award acknowledges those members of our nursing and Patient Care Services communities who go above and beyond to create an inclusive environment where all employees, patients, and their families of diverse cultures, ethnic backgrounds, ages, lifestyles, religions, and abilities feel welcomed and cared for. The “lotus” name was selected because the open, fully bloomed flower represents self-awareness and growth to full enlightenment.
