The Kaiser Permanente Nurse Scholars Academy offers programs to support nurses and nurse leaders as they pursue advanced degrees.
- Kaiser Permanente is collaborating with Samuel Merritt University to provide an academic program for working registered nurses that culminates in a BSN degree.
- The Master of Science in Nursing program is offered in partnership with the University of San Francisco School of Nursing and Health Professions to eligible nurse leaders selected for sponsorship by the Kaiser Permanente Nurse Scholars Academy.
- The Academy also offers a DNP program, the highest level of academic preparation for nursing practice.
Linzy M. Davenport, DNP, RN, CENP, Chief Operating Officer at the Kaiser Permanente Sacramento Medical Center earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice at University of CA – San Francisco class of 2024.
“Pursuing a Doctoral in Nursing Practice (DNP) has been a profoundly transformative journey for me. I am incredibly grateful to Kaiser Permanente and the Nurse Scholars Academy for their unwavering support and sponsorship of my pursuit to obtain my DNP, which has been instrumental in my professional growth and success,” said Davenport. “Obtaining my DNP has not only deepened my understanding of complex healthcare systems but has also empowered me to influence the professional practice of nursing at a higher level. The experience has prepared me with the skills to lead, innovate, and advocate for evidence-based practices, ultimately enhancing the quality of care provided to patients and the communities that we live and serve in. Earning this degree has reaffirmed my commitment to the professional practice of nursing and has opened doors to opportunities where I can contribute to the advancement of the profession and make a meaningful impact.”
Carolina van Dalen, MSN, RN, Regional Clinical Informatics Consultant KPHC, earned her Masters in Nursing through the University of San Francisco program.
“Completing my MSN in Nursing at the University of San Francisco has been a deeply meaningful journey. As an immigrant and the first in my family to study abroad, this achievement feels personal,” said van Dalen. “The University of San Francisco’s emphasis on caring science and compassionate leadership perfectly aligned with my values and my role as an informatics leader. I wanted to show my daughter that it’s never too late to chase your dreams or go back to school. With the support of USF’s dedicated professors, the Kaiser Permanente Nurse Scholars Academy, and KP’s commitment to developing nurses, this experience has strengthened my leadership and inspired me to lead with purpose and heart.”
