A message from Juana Gonzalez, RN
Interim Medical Group Administrator

This past year has been one of growth, innovation, and collaboration for nursing at Kaiser Permanente San Leandro Medical Center. Our commitment to excellence has been reflected in the strides we’ve made in patient care, professional development, and our ongoing Magnet journey. Through teamwork, leadership, and a shared dedication to delivering the highest quality care, we have continued to push boundaries and set new standards for nursing practice.

A key highlight of 2024 has been the expansion of the Geriatric Emergency Department program. Since achieving Bronze (Level III) status in 2022, the team has remained steadfast in its mission to enhance care for older adults and is now preparing to apply for Silver (Level II) accreditation in 2025. By identifying and addressing the unique needs of our geriatric patients early in their care journey, we have implemented comprehensive assessments and tailored interventions that promote safety, improve patient experience, and ensure seamless continuity of care. From fall risk screenings and mobility evaluations to delirium precautions and specialized follow-up plans, every step is designed to enhance outcomes and support the well-being of our older adult population. These efforts have positioned San Leandro as a leader in geriatric emergency care across Kaiser Permanente Northern California, a testament to the dedication and collaboration of our emergency department teams.

Beyond clinical excellence, our commitment to fostering a strong and supportive work environment has been a driving force in 2024. We have prioritized team engagement through staff recognition programs, educational opportunities, and initiatives that reinforce the essential role of nurses in shaping the future of healthcare. Through activities such as DAISY and Petal Awards, peer recognition, and professional development programs, we continue to cultivate a culture where every nurse feels valued, empowered, and inspired to grow.

As we reflect on the past year, it is clear that our collective efforts have strengthened the foundation for even greater advancements in the years ahead. The dedication and passion of our nurses define who we are as a team and fuel our continued pursuit of excellence. With an unwavering focus on patient-centered care, innovation, and professional growth, we look forward to building upon this momentum and shaping the future of nursing at San Leandro.

Together, we will continue to lead, inspire, and transform care.

“There was one nurse that stood out the most for many reasons is Caroline. From the moment we met, she brought a very positive energy in the room. She was kind, patient and made me feel very comfortable. She went above and beyond every time she came to help me. From making sure me and the baby were doing well to even making sure my husband had what he needed.”
