It\u2019s important to pause and reflect upon what we accomplished and how we grew as a nursing community in 2024.<\/p>\n

I am immensely proud of the high level of care that the East Bay Nurses provide to our patient population, but I am equally proud of the commitment you demonstrate daily to advocate for the diverse needs of our most vulnerable in the community. Your unwavering commitment to providing exceptional care is evident and your drive to improve quality and patient safety has set a benchmark for nursing excellence.<\/p>\n

In pursuit of these high standards in 2024, we invested in the professional development of our nurses through innovative, targeted programs that aim to close nurse-identified knowledge and skill gaps. These programs include our TPMG RN Leadership Academy, Injection Connection Quarterly Education for LVNs and NP Peer Education Day.<\/p>\n

We saw a significant increase in the number of new Staff Nurse (SN) 3\/4 and Nurse Practitioner (NP) 3 awardees. Many RNs successfully transitioned from SN3 to SN4 in 2024.\u00a0 This success was supported by lead RNs and NPs across TPMG and KFH that came together to re-imagine what exceptional clinical ladder mentorship could look like and developed tools to support an applicant\u2019s success. In addition, we saw many nurses, RN Leaders and NPs accomplish academic goals such as BSN to MSN, MSN to DNP and RN to FNP.<\/p>\n

Quality and Safety are always a focus for nursing and this year was no exception. The Nursing Quality Forum in RCH supported the Pinole MOB with a Skills Fair that provided education and training in topics such as infection prevention, medical emergency management and hazardous waste disposal. In our RCH and OAK Emergency Rooms, nurse-engagement in quality improvement projects resulted in significant, positive patient outcomes. These included a reduction in door to EKG time to within 10 minutes of arrival and decreased admission rates for patients in sickle-cell crisis. Nurses in the ED also developed and implemented an ultrasound guided IV-start training and competency program that has resulted in improved success with difficult IV starts.<\/p>\n

Our journey to nursing excellence will continue in 2025 by building on what we have accomplished and exploring new opportunities for growth in areas, such as, nursing research and evidence-based practice. \u00a0Nurse-led committees, such as the Magnet Nursing Governance Counsels, will continue to drive progress in quality and patient safety and support nursing professional development and growth, while upholding the highest standards of the profession.<\/p>\n
