Kaiser Permanente Vacaville expands ER with state‑of‑the‑art trauma rooms

Vacaville Emergency Department grows stronger: 12 new beds, remodeled trauma rooms, faster lifesaving care for the community.

In August 2025, Kaiser Permanente Vacaville Medical Center completed a major expansion of its Emergency Department, adding 12 new beds and remodeling trauma resuscitation rooms. This initiative has significantly strengthened the hospital’s ability to serve the Vacaville and Solano County communities, ensuring that high-quality emergency and trauma care is accessible to all, regardless of membership status.

As the county’s designated Level II trauma center, the facility now offers enhanced capacity and state-of-the-art resources, including in-house laboratory, occupational therapy, speech therapy, physical therapy, and social services. The expansion allows trauma teams to function with greater efficiency and precision, especially during critical situations, ultimately improving patient outcomes. According to Darryl Curry, senior vice president and area manager, the remodeled trauma rooms enable the team to operate like a NASCAR pit crew, delivering timely and compassionate care when it matters most.

The hospital’s commitment to community health was further underscored during the August 2025 ribbon-cutting ceremony, where Physician in Chief Eric Au, MD, emphasized that the expanded Emergency Department stands ready to serve anyone in need, whether facing a serious injury or sudden illness. Emergency Department nurses and leaders played a pivotal role in preparing the team for the new workflows and supporting safety and trauma drills, ensuring readiness for a broad range of emergencies.

Additionally, the integration of innovative telemedicine technology connects local patients to a network of over 9,000 specialists and surgeons throughout Northern California, bringing advanced expertise to the bedside. The trauma center’s designation by the Solano County Emergency Medical Services Agency and verification by the American College of Surgeons further guarantee that care meets the highest national standards.
