The Coordinating Council oversees all aspects of professional governance, including functions of the core councils. It is led by chair, Lara Sloan, RN, and co-chair, Jenny Schnurr, BSN, RN.
The Coordinating Council is responsible for facilitating all Nurses Week activities and creating an annual strategic plan for the professional governance structure. Chief Nurse Executive Pavna Sloan, DNP, MSN, RN, NEA-BC, and Magnet Director, Anjal Pong, DNP, MSN, RN, NEA-BC, NPD-BC, CNOR serve as advisors to the council. During 2025, all council nurses received training and education on the steps of evidence-based practice (EBP) and each core council started on an EBP project.

The Quality and Safety Core Council is led by chair Gary Punzalan, BSN, RN. The focus of the council is to reduce HAPI incidents through education and awareness of preventative measures. During Nurses Week, the council created a HAPI-ordy game for nurses to engage in an interactive learning activity. The quality and wound care nurses partner with this council to provide advisement and support.

The Professional Development Core Council is led by chair Casey Palmer, MPH, BSN, RN and co-chair Kelly Kang, MSN, BSN, RN. The EBP project for this council was to implement interventions to increase nursing specialty certifications and clinical ladder advancement. They utilized both Certified Nurses Day and Nurses Week to disseminate informational flyers, resources and obtain pledges from interested nurses.
Sara G. Cohen, MS, RN, AGCNS-BC, the geriatric CNS served as advisor to the professional development council.

Amanda York, BSN, RN is the chair of the Evidence-Based Practice and Research Core Council with Joshua O’Floinn, MSN, BSN, RN, CCRN as the co-chair. Creating a proposal for an ultra-sound guided peripheral IV insertion nurse training program has been the focus of their EBP project this past year. The council has conducted a literature review and analysis and explored evidence of successful implementation from other medical centers. They have surveyed nurses on IV insertion confidence on a pilot unit and are finalizing a formal program proposal. The advisor for this council is the Magnet Program Director, Anjal Pong, DNP, MSN, RN, NEA-BC, NPD-BC, CNOR.

The Care Experience/Equity, Inclusion, Diversity/Caring Science Core council is chaired by Sandeep Everest, BSN, RN, CNOR and co-chaired by Kristen Smith, BSN, RN, RNC-OB. Updating care boards in the patient rooms to improve patient experience has been the focus of their EBP project. Through discussions, literature review and community outreach, the council has launched a new care board initiative on a nursing unit that contain communication elements that reflect best practices. Feedback from patients and care team members will be collected after this pilot project to inform a larger project launch to other inpatient nursing units. Erik Mindermann, Care Experience Leader and Talya Monasch-Marcus, EID Lead Consultant serve as advisors to this council.
