Trang Pham, MSN, RN, NI-BC, CPAN, NPD-BC, PACU Nurse Educator at San Leandro Medical Center, brought her passion for education and advocacy for human trafficking survivors into Kaiser Permanente San Leandro’s annual education curriculum for all disciplines.
Trang was originally involved in a pilot program at the Kaiser Permanente East Bay and North Valley Emergency Departments aimed at identifying and supporting victims of suspected human trafficking. This initiative focused on educating clinicians and establishing workflows and resources to respond effectively when potential victims were identified. Additionally, patient-facing posters were developed to raise awareness and provide safety resources, including information on recruitment tactics. The pilot demonstrated significant impact, with increased diagnoses and activation of human trafficking workflows compared to areas without the intervention.
When Pham joined San Leandro, she championed the continuation of this vital work by advocating for its inclusion in the annual education curriculum for all clinicians. Her efforts ensured that every healthcare professional had access to critical information to help identify and support victims of human trafficking. Trang’s commitment extended regionally as well. She was selected as a podium presenter at the 2025 Research & Innovation Academy conference, where she presented “Transforming Hope into Action: Survivors of Human Trafficking and Health Care.”
