Kaiser Permanente Fresno is taking an exciting step toward achieving Magnet designation, which is awarded by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and is the gold standard for nursing excellence and patient care. Hospitals earning this recognition meet rigorous criteria in nursing practice, quality outcomes, and innovation. Magnet hospitals have reported achieving superior results, lower mortality, fewer complications, and higher patient satisfaction — while fostering supportive environments that enhance nurse recruitment, retention, and professional growth. This designation reflects a culture of evidence-based care, continuous improvement, and excellence benefiting both patients and health care professionals.
Kaiser Permanente Fresno is scheduled to submit its Magnet application on Aug. 3, 2026, marking a significant milestone in elevating nursing practice and outcomes.
To prepare for the application submission, a Magnet Story Mapping Workshop was held in June 2025. Participants included the Voice of Nursing Council comprised of nurses from all inpatient units, key interdisciplinary stakeholders, and Kaiser Permanente Northern California Magnet leaders and consultants. During this collaborative session, teams identified projects and stories that aligned with the 104 standards outlined in the 2023 Magnet Application Manual, ensuring our submission reflects the outstanding work happening across the Fresno Service Area.
Nurses at all levels, from different disciplines, are actively engaged in creating a culture of nursing excellence and professional growth, demonstrating a commitment to evidence-based practice and continuous improvement. To further strengthen this effort, 17 Fresno nurses traveled to Atlanta, Georgia in Oct. 2025 to attend the ANCC Magnet Conference. They returned energized and inspired, eager to share innovative ideas and best practices with their peers.
This collective dedication underscores Fresno’s commitment to fostering an environment where nurses thrive and patients receive exceptional care. As we move closer to Aug. 2026, our teams remain focused on showcasing the extraordinary contributions that make Kaiser Permanente Fresno a leader in nursing excellence.
