Creating a sky full of rainbows: Welcoming our newest arrivals

Our nursing team celebrates each new baby’s arrival by creating colorful rainbows with each newborn’s name placed on a cloud for their birth

The goal of this project was to engage both nurses and patients in celebrating each birth through a colorful, interactive display board. In addition to recognizing these special deliveries, the project aimed to bring warmth, personality, and visual charm to the unit. For every birth, the primary labor nurse wrote the baby’s name and date of birth on a brightly colored piece of construction paper. Members of the Unit Practice Council (UPC) then attach the names to cloud-shaped displays, with each cloud representing a day of the month.

The display board has been positively received by both staff and patients, serving as both a visual celebration and a symbol of professional pride. Beyond showcasing the many celebrated newborns, it represents the ongoing dedication, skill, and collective accomplishments of the Labor and Delivery team. By combining aesthetic appeal with meaningful recognition, the project has fostered a sense of connection, joy, and shared purpose within the unit, reinforcing the value of patient- and family-centered care.
