Hospital acquired pressure injuries are a preventable complication in the acute care setting. The Modesto ICU Unit Based Council (UBC) saw an opportunity to prevent these injuries in their unit.
Using an evidence-based approach, the council implemented a pilot study utilizing the Turn the Clock method, which is a visual que posted in the doorway of patient rooms reminding staff to mobilize and reposition patients every two hours. The team educated the ICU staff on this new tool, completed an audit pre- and post-education, and roll out of the Turn the Clock tool. 38 out of the 41 patients were turned every two hours, resulting in 92.68 percent improved compliance rate.
This project has increased patient safety and collaboration in the ICU.
