This year, the Modesto Emergency Department (ED) earned Level 1 Geriatric Emergency Department Accreditation (GEDA). Seniors represent 21 percent of all ED visits in the Central Valley, and they often present with multiple chronic conditions, complex medication regimens, and significant social and physical challenges. Achieving GEDA affirms that the ED is fully prepared to meet the unique needs of older adults during emergency care.
In response to these considerations, the geriatric EDs have integrated best practices specifically designed for elderly patients, resulting in improved health outcomes and a more supportive, age-sensitive environment throughout their emergency care experience.
This accreditation is a testament to the department’s strong commitment to quality and patient safety. Dedicated staff training, specialized clinical protocols, and thoughtful environmental enhancements were all implemented to ensure that older adults receive expert, compassionate, and tailored care.
